Establishing Yourself As an Online Expert
Whether your online business is in Internet Marketing, candles,
potty training products, clothing or collectible figures,
establishing yourself as an expert in your field will do wonders for
you and your website.
We all know online ordering can be intimidating for Internet users.
How do you make their experience less intimidating and risky? One
way is to share your expertise with those visitors.
Establishing yourself as the expert does the following:
- helps builds trust in you, your knowledge and your products
- encourages referrals from those who benefit from your knowledge
- builds a long term relationship with your current and future
customers
Best of all, sharing your knowledge doesn't have to cost anything.
It does take time and effort, but your efforts will be worth it in
the long run. Soon you will be the guru in your chosen field!
How do you establish yourself as the online expert in your field?
- Write an informative ezine: (click here for a free Ezine
Publishing Tutorial): Write on topics that will interest your
current and potential customers.
For example: If you sell candles, have an ezine on home decor and
about scents & mood.
- Write articles for other websites and ezines: (Click here for a
few places to submit your articles but build your own targeted list
as well.)
Don't forget to publish articles on your own website too, so your
visitors can see that you are knowledgeable in your field.
For example: If you create potty training products, write an
article on potty training for a parenting website or ezine.
- Participate in Message Boards and Email Discussion Groups: Be
helpful to your fellow group members and participate in discussions
as much as you can. You are always welcome at the Internet Based
Moms Message Boards, but be sure to also choose groups that
specialize in your area of expertise.
For example: If you make doggy biscuits and specialize in dog
nutrition, join a dog lover's group.
Search your favorite search engine for message boards, try Google
Groups, Yahoo! Groups, Usenet.com & Topica for some good groups or
start your own!
- Provide Online Workshops: Provide an informational seminar
related to your product.
For example: If you sell scrapbooking supplies, have an online
workshop on scrapbooking techniques. You don't have to charge for
this seminar, but at the end of your workshop, offer participants a
subscription to your ezine and information on how to order your
products.
You can book a free workshop on the Internet Based Mom's Chat
Rooms. Be sure to send out personal invites to people you think
might like to attend and ask them to bring friends. Perhaps, you can
provide a little gift to those who bring friends.
- Creative & Informative Online Parties: Online parties are
becoming more and more popular. If you are a consultant in a large
company, you certainly have a lot of competition to get guest to
your party. Personal invitations certainly go a long way to bringing
guests to your party, but you'll still need a way to entice your
guests to come.
Sure, you can offer prizes and free products, but you can also
offer your expertise. You can use a "workshop" formula to your
online party and let people feel they received truly learned
something from coming, not just a sales pitch.
For example: If you sell Tupperware, have an online party with
the theme "Organizing Your Kitchen." Teach your guests how to
efficiently organize their kitchen. Be sure to include how to
organize with your products, but do provide some general
information. You don't want guests to feel like they have to order
hundreds of dollars in products to achieve results. They may just
leave discouraged and without buying any products.
You can book your
online party for free at Internet Based Moms.
- Send out a Press Release: If you have an informative website
that illustrates your knowledge in your subject area, send a press
release to your local media about it.
If your story is published in a local newspaper or
on the news, it is like an endorsement for you and your business.

distributing a press release.
What Will Happen When You Do These Things?
Remember, it takes time to establish your expertise. Make sure
you are sharing good quality information and getting it out to as
many people in your target market as possible.
Many people come to the Internet for information and not
necessarily to buy. Provide them with the information they are
looking for and when it's time to buy, they will come to you. After
all, you are the expert.
