Time managment help

Postby ladyflguru on Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:37 am

Ok so im having a problem lately with my advertising. I had to recently start a paid advertising program to catch up with traffic flow. Considering its the holiday season my time management seems to be suffering. Does anyone have advice on how to manage time during this seasonal rush? Between free advertising and normal business things, work life seems to not end until bed time!

Not that I'm the best person to give advice this year the way I'm going since I've been burning the midnight oil too, but one thing I found I had to do was to reduce my multi-tasking. I was reaching my limit and had to start carving out chunks of time where I just focused on completing one item or projects instead of working on a number of things almost simultaneously.

Are you doing a lot of things in a day?

Perhaps you can spread your tasks to several days.

Example
Mon - this task
Tue - another task
Wed - other task

Or you can prioritize your tasks. Do those that you think it is crucial to your business.

Don't forget to "go with your juices." I had an especially "creative" day recently. My writing juices were in overdrive so I wrote and wrote and wrote. Now I have several articles ready for my blog and can simply work on other things.

I'm all about scheduling. It's amazing what we can accomplishg with a schedule. Another thought is to hire out the advertising for this time of year. V.A.'s can take that one task off your hands for you.

I recommend outsourcing anything that you feel takes you too long to do. I may be a VA, but I outsource tasks for my own projects that are not my strong points. My production rate has gone way up since I started doing that. Things get done so much faster and I don't feel that constant crammed feeling anymore.

yeh i decided to schedual multi-tasking more than normal. I look at it this way i have to fight in the economy to get were i need to go and there are more and more people climbing onto the WAH bandwagon that i even have friends im pitching my services too, that includes my affiliate program. I have a few that have started small online businessess to get some extra income i have been offering my services of becoming an employee under them so i can earn a bit here and there from their sales. Its an undertaking but i think burning the midnight oil can help me greatly in the long run, i have a book now that i have put everything down to the minute so i can even have time for me.

I go through my phases with this. Sometimes I'm so completely focused that a hurricane probably couldn't budge me (well ok so it could lol) and I get everything done and done ahead of time. But then there are those times where I'm so unfocused that I don't know whether I'm coming or going. So the solution for me was all about scheduling. I had to schedule everything. Not just business stuff but personal stuff as well.

Another really good tip is to get a kitchen timer and set it for 15 minutes. When you know you are trying to 'beat' the clock you'd be surprised how much you can actually accomplish in 15 minutes because you are so focused on beating that clock.

I find scheduling in time time daily helps... even if it's just a little. The thing with this sort of business is that it's very easy to sit back and not work, especially if you're not providing a service, etc. And when you don't work for a while it's difficult to get back into it.

I try to do something each day, even if it's just a little - sending a few emails, planning a new site, adding one thing - but I make sure you add something on a regular basis.

I do agree that you also need to go with your creative drive too. I have weeks where I work non stop then other times when I take it easy for a while and just do a little each day...

Since I own a service-based business, I rely on scheduling for the most part. However, when it comes to doing things for myself, like marketing my business or writing new content, I tend to get sidetracked. When this happens, I usually have to take a similar approach as Mila and do a little each day or else I might get too lax and not do anything for several months.
