Getting ready to launch my new website - feedback needed

Postby heymannyc on Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:59 am

Hi ladies,

I just had my new site designed and we went soft live on Friday. I would love to get your feedback to see if I should add or change anything.

I am already working on putting some bullet points in on the home page so it not so texty.

If you have a minute, can you take a look and see if anything else needs to be changed?

Thanks so much!

Jill,

I like the site. I only have one comment. Your banner features a very young child. We live in an instant gratifcation world. When I saw that young child, my first thought was "oh this site is not for me". I made this judgement based solely on the photo.

As I read your site, it appears your product is intended for children of any age, not just young children. I wonder if there is any way in your banner to include an older child also???

Other than that, I think you did a great job on the site.

First of all, GREAT and interesting product.

The navigation is easy to understand and all the important information is very easy to find, so that's always good. The color scheme is pleasing to the eye and doesn't overpower the product views.

I'm not sure I agree about the photo, The front page says geared towards kids 3 to 10. To me the photo on the header the child is younger, but not baby young, so I think it fits the targeted age bracket. Of course, the book could be good for older kids, so the addition of an older child closer to age 10 wouldn't hurt the image either. Everyone is going to see different things when they look at the header illustration.

Hi Jill, I think you've done a fantastic job with this.

I think the age range for this book (3 to 10) is too large. A 3 to 6 year old is going to understand and respond differently to things than a 7 to 10 year old. My recommendation is that you adapt the story/book to fit two different age groups and then you can have two different illustrations/book covers.

I would love to see something like this for teens as well - even something geared towards teen girls which covers issues like date rape.

Another thing that I wanted to mention is to maybe add something on the home page about how the book is for both boys and girls. A lot of times when people think of this type of abuse they automatically think of little girls and forget that little boys can just as easily fall victim to such things and need to be educated on the topic as well.

I would change your keywords to more accurately reflect the book. The book is about child abuse but your primary keyword is Teach. Your other keywords are:

teaching, Teach children, teach your child, teaching your child, Educate your child, educating your child, educating your children, educating your child, Educators, educate, educating, Child, children, youngsters, Body, child’s body, Protect, protection, protecting, help, helps, helping, Facilitate, Sensitive, Family, family prevention, Safe, safety, safely, Empowered, empower, empowering, Simple message, message, good touch bad touch, privates, private parts, Secret, no secrets, no more secrets, Boundaries, boundary, tell, telling, tell a parent, tell a teacher, disclosed, disclose, disclosure, disclosing, valuable tips, discuss, discussion, discussing, discussion topics, conversation, Dialogue, prevention, prevent, preventing, stop, stopping, Stop the silence

While some search engines ignore the keyword tag, hundreds of search engines do use it.

By the way, I think your site (and book) offers a much needed service.

I intentionally made the child gender neutral so that both girls and boys would identify with it. I like the idea of doing a book for teens, but that is a whole separate animal at this point. Nice catch about the key words. I have not gotten around to fine tuning them yet. That is my next step. Now I am trying to decide if having a blog would be a good idea. Any input?
