H1, H2, etc are your headings or section headings on your page. They are typically the bigger, bolder sections of a page.

Here are a couple sites that have information about using HTML. I refer to them when I get stuck or need to know what something means.

Simply stated, they are heading tags. One way to think of it is as if you are building your web page like an outline. Depending on what program you're using to set your tags or CSS properties, you would set H1 as the largest font size you would use on the page and H2 a little smaller. Both would be larger than your actual page font size.

H1 - Title

H2 - Point One
Paragraph One - supports Point One
Paragraph Two - supports Point One

H2 - Point Two
Paragraph One - supports Point Two
Paragraph Two - supports Point Two

etc. H3 could be used when building a large page.

We have a very large site where we use H1 and H2 on the primary section pages and H2 and H3 on the sub pages for each section.
