SEO stands for search engine optimization. It means that when people put in a search in Google or Internet Explorer or whatever search engine they use, your site will pop up in the list. You will want your site to pop up under as many possible searches as it can. I do not know how to physically do this, but that is your goal with SEO. There are some good websites out there that can give you the basics. Try Business.com; marketingtoday.com; trafficzap.com. Also just do a search on SEO under Google and see if they tell you how to do it. You can pay someone but I am pretty sure you can do it yourself too.

You need to know that search engine optimization has a lot of components. It's simple enough to optimize a page for the search engines using the proper [tags], and keyword prevalence and saturation within an article of at least 500 words.

Getting search engines to recognize your page as being relevant is something else. For the most part, if your page doesn't rank in the first three pages for the search phrase or keyword, no one will see it.

For Google, that means getting listed as 1 of the top 30 relevant pages for that keyword or keyword phrase. And, yes, you are competing with thousands of SEO professionals.

A key is drilling down your niche keywords and keyword phrases.

Do you know how to find keywords? Keywords are the words people put into a search engine when they are looking for something. You might Google SEO for example, to learn about it. SEO is a keyword phrase. What is your product? Come up with as many 2- 4 word phrases that someone might use when searching the internet for your product. Let's say you sell handmade sweaters for dogs. You might think of: dog sweaters, handmade dog sweaters, sweaters for terriers, etc. Now go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal which is a free keyword tool. Type in one of your phrases in the "enter keyword" box. Type in the security code, and hit "get keyword ideas". This tool will show you how many people in your country (the local search column) did a search using that keyword phrase this month. As you scroll down through the results, you'll see other related search terms that people used and how many people used it. You might find ones that have better search volume than what you thought up. The next step is to use those keywords in your webpage titles, meta tags, catagories, articles, etc. You can also write articles for other sites like ezine articles or a blog and use those keywords there. Include a link back to your site, and that link, also known as a backlink, will help Google find you and rank your site better.
That's the tip of the iceberg version. There is quite a bit more. http://www.seocounts.com is a good site to get more information. Paul Counts is a very sweet, very helpful, Christian fellow who knows his stuff.
Or, you can keep asking here. We'll help all we can :D
