My First ebook, Ok im making an attempt which do i do first?

Postby Mommy_traffic on Sun Aug 31, 2008 12:35 am

I downloaded adobe pdf creator,

IM just trying to figure out which would be the easiest for me to venture
out of the 3 im a newbie.

#1convert a webpage
Enter the URL of a Web page, and we'll capture it as an Adobe PDF file. You can then save, distribute, or print it.

#2select a file from your hard drive
Select a file from your hard drive, and we'll create an Adobe® PDF file for you. We can also do optical character recognition (OCR) on image files.

#3Use Create Adobe PDF Online to convert your documents to Adobe PDF
files from your desktop.

I would like to create an ebook to sale on my website.

Adobe is not the easiest program to use, but creating your pdf document online might be the easiest.

I agree with Beth, 'online' is probably the easiest. If it's too complicated, you might want to try CutePDF writer, http://www.cutepdf.com. It's free and easy to use for strictly converting like a word doc (or any printable document) to a pdf. They have a paid version that gives you more features but for conversion only, the free version works fine.

I'll get with Larry (my other half) and get some information for you. He creates pdf ebook and reports all the time and uses a very simple program. It's not free, but it's really easy to use.

Basically it sets up a new "printer" on your computer. You simply write your "whatever" as a document and print it using the pdf printer. It doesn't really print anything; it simply converts it to a pdf file.

For the life of me I cannot think of the name at the moment, but I'll get back to you.

That's the way most of the PDF programs work is by creating a "printer".

You should be able to write your book (or whatever) in Word, OpenOffice Writer or whatever word processing program you use. Save it. Then, while the document is open, go to File --> Print and then select your PDF program from the drop down "Name" and it should convert for you.

Congrats on the success of your 1st test! I know how mind-numbing it can be when you are doing all of this for the 1st time.

Keep us informed as to your progress, and let us know when you have that 1st ebook of yours done! BTW, what are you thinking of writing on?

Also, feel free to IM me in the future if you are not getting your questions answered. Not that I'm an expert. In fact, I'm just getting back into the swing of things after a long break away from online marketing, but I love helping others and I have marketed online off and on for the last 10 years. Wow, 10 years already?? Where does the time go?

God bless,
Jen

Yay! Glad you finally figured it out. Open Office is a great option if you don't have Word. I use both because I've found that sometimes Open Office works better to convert to PDF because sometimes Word doesn't convert footer links very well.

Mommy Traffic - so glad to hear you found success!

I'll have to check out this Open Office.

By the way Mel you give the BEST instructions...you helped me out about a year ago when I first joined (I had to re-join a few months back because I changed emails) and was having difficulty setting up my signature. I've noticed since then that when technical questions are asked you answer so well and so clearly!

I just had to give you some Kudos for being such a great teacher and communicator on these boards!
