Furniture, Toys, and Business
October 1, 2007
I don’t know about you but I have been known to move my home’s furniture around quite a bit, while trying to find the “right” spot. As a newlywed, I stayed at home while the hubby was away at work all week. He would come home in the wee (dark!) hours of the morning. I always knew when he came in because I was awakened by a string of four-letter-word phrases beginning with D and ending with Kit.
Once I realized what was happening, I would just yell back, “Honey, be careful. I moved the sofa again.” Of course, I would wait until AFTER the grumbles and mumbles had died down to give the warning.
Kids toys can provide the same sort of “entertainment.” One midnight trip to the bathroom is all it takes to find that tiny lost truck. You know the one. It’s metal and has a million pointy angles by night but is perfectly safe and smooth by day.
Most of us can keep track of our furniture and can pretty much walk through the house in the dark. Our level of familiarity in our “virtual homes” or websites can be a very different! Our websites should be just as familiar to us.
We need to have everything stored and organized so that we don’t wind up falling over something and making a mess, or worse breaking something. Get to know your files, folders, plugins, graphics, etc. By becoming familiar with where everything is housed, you will be able to do things more efficiently, save server space, and easily out-task things.
If you’re like me, you’ve gotten accustomed to doing everything for yourself. When it comes time to out-task, you may have a hard time telling another person where to find things. Take time to organize your site so nobody falls over the “virtual sofa” in the dark.

Hi Kit!
Very funny! You have a great knack for adding humor to your writing! I have the habit of constantly reorganizing my kitchen and then my husband can’t find anything. You’re right about setting up your business virtual and otherwise so people can easily step in and help.
Thanks!
Annette
Awww, thank you for the kind words! It means a lot coming from a “real writer.” I giggle a lot when I write but I’m never sure if anyone giggles when they read it.
It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one into reorganizing. I’ll send your hubby a sympathy card, if you’ll send my mom one!
