My Son’s All Grown Up!
October 10, 2007
Well not really, he’s still only 10 but this Monday he left on his first school trip. They’re going away for a week to do field studies, so it’s an educational type trip but it’s the first time he’s ever been away for that long and where I can’t even speak to him!
I miss him quite a bit and think about him everyday… they seem to grow up so fast, but I understand the importance of these experiences. They were all so excited (60 of them!) and looked so grown up getting on the bus.
My son was actually up and dressed at 6 a.m…. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so happy about anything, LOL.
Anyways, I feel time passing quickly. I can’t imagine what it will be like when he goes off to University or to live on his own… Maybe I’ll be more prepared by the time that happens. What do you think?

I’ll never forget my daughter Nicole coming home last summer from 5 weeks with her dad and then turning around the next day and heading to Girl Scout Camp. I was practically sobbing and she was thrilled to go because she got to spend 5 days riding horses. Mom who?
It doesn’t get easier for me but each time I get better at putting on a happy face for her.
I think it will be hard no matter what age they are at. Wow, 10 and already going away for a week. That would be a tough one.
Sometimes I wish we could freeze time and enjoy the moment. I had a moment this week when my daughter who is 6 lost both of her top front teeth. I thought, we can’t wait when they are little to get their teeth in, now I’m watching her loose them and get her adult teeth. It was sad for me to see a sign of her growing up even more.
That’s tough Annette but you’re so right, it’s important to put on a brave face!
Keri, I know what you mean, they seem to grow so fast. I do look forward to some stages of them getting older, like being able to go out with them and have real conversations and just bonding that way… but it also means they’re growing up and time just seems to pass so quickly.
I have one that just graduated and will probably be moving out in less than a year.
It’s not any easier than it was the first time he loaded the school bus. I was in tears that day and will be in tears when he moves out too.
They definitely grow up too fast. *sigh*
I don’t even want to think about when my boys grow up and move out of the house. However, I also can’t wait until they’re gone so I have less messes to clean up! LOL
Brave Mama! I just had my own mini moment like that letting my son ride the bus home from preschool. He loved it and it went well, but I was on the edge of my seat the first few days.
I saw that on your blog Nell! good stuff
