My Turn to be Grateful
from mila
Just a few days ago Annette posted how she was very grateful that she could stay at home and earn a living. After I had my first son, I worked outside the home for a short period and remember how difficult those days were.
Last night I was reminded just how tough that can be. I was at parent/teacher evening to meet with my daugther’s teacher and look at her work and so on when I ran into a mother that recently went back to her job after maternity leave (her son is 10 months I believe). She looked so tired and had just picked up the little one at daycare then was picking up the older one (8) from the afterschool club to go home and make dinner, do homework, get them ready for bed, etc. It was 6 p.m. and she looked really tired and fed up
It really hit me just how grateful I am for what I do. I remember those days clearly where I had to do the same thing and It was difficult. That’s not to say I don’t work long hours now, I do. But I have the flexibility to do it on my terms (to a certain extent), move my schedule around and base my work around the family (not the other way around).
Sometimes I feel overworked and tired and I put in really late nights but other times I work very little and just having the freedom to do that is a godsend to me.
And I certainly don’t ever take for granted that I’ve been given the opportunity to live life this way.

I also am very grateful to be able to work from home. I don’t have to worry about who will be taking my children to school or picking them up and if one of them becomes ill in the middle of the day I don’t have to worry about how to get them picked up because I am right here at home.
I am right there with you, ladies. In fact, I was just thinking the same thing this morning. It isn’t easy being a work-at-home mom, but I feel like I have it realllll good!
You’re so right. We’ve been very blessed to be able to do something from home that will benefit the family and still give us time to spend WITH the kids. I like that I can be flexible when I need to, but can work the longer hours I need to help use meet a specific goal, if needed. I’m very thankful for being a WAHM.
