Why Are They Hiding?

October 25, 2007

In my opinion, in order to be successful in business you have to build relationships and trust. But I sometimes wonder if it really is necessary. A big part of trust for me is knowing who owns and operates a website I do business with.

But I guess not everyone thinks that way.

I just came across a web hosting company that I think is run by a WAHM (but definitely marketing to WAHMs) . Not only is there no information on their website about who she is, but she hasn’t provided accurate information on their domain name registration (the address field is blank and the phone field is just all fives). Not to mention their registrar’s TOS requires accurate WHOIS information (as do most if not all accredited registrars).

I understand that many WAHMs prefer not to publicly list their home address and phone number, but there are ways to identify yourself without giving out private information, including private domain registration.

Other WAHMs are recommending the hosting company in question. I guess they trust them anyway.

I just wonder why they’re hiding.

Would you do business with them?

For hosting, no – I wouldn’t deal with a company that’s hiding information like that. Who would I call if I needed support?

    For other things – possibly.

In some things the identity and/or accessibility of the vendor isn’t as important as the product or the delivery…but with hosting I like to know who I am dealing with.

I don’t think I would do business with someone who refused to identify themselves. If you don’t know who you’re dealing with, how can you learn to trust them? Nope, I’d steer clear of that company. There’s too much of a chance to be scammed, and that’s not a place I’d like to go.

I know I wouldn’t do business with someone who didn’t identify themselves. There is just way too much scamming going on anymore to take any chances.
