Tips For Creating Blog Content
Blogs require frequent content. To many business owners that
means posting several times a week. The majority of business owners
have enough of a trial coming up with the time to write those posts
let alone the extra trial of trying to figure out what on earth
they’re going to write about next. Honestly, after 50 posts, you’re
likely going to face writer’s block. Here are several tips to help
you avoid this impending hurdle.
#1 Write several posts at once. If you’re on a role writing
your blog post, don’t put away the computer once you’ve finished.
Write another post and another and another until you run out of
steam or your child is throwing spaghetti at you to get your
attention. Your blog posts don’t have to be published when they’re
written. You can save them as drafts. Even if you’re not satisfied
with the post, at least you have something solid to go back to
later. All it will likely need is a bit of editing and sprucing up
before you hit “publish.”
#2 Create a file of blog ideas. Great ideas hit you at the
oddest times. Maybe you’re at the dentist and bam….you have a great
idea. Maybe you’re sitting at your child’s band concert. Maybe
you’re in the shower. Our minds tend to wander and generate
incredibly creative ideas at the worst times. Take advantage of this
and write down the blog idea. Get as detailed as you can considering
the circumstances. For example, if you’re in the shower than your
idea may have to be written on your mirror in soap until you are
finished with your shower at which time you can transfer the idea to
a piece of paper. Keep your ideas all in one location whether it is
in a computer file labeled “Blog ideas” or in a file in your file
cabinet. This way, when you’re stumped about what to write on, all
you have to do is choose one of your handy backup ideas.
#3 Steal.
Well don’t really steal, however chances are that
you read several articles and blog posts this week. Do you have
anything to add to these posts or comment on? For example, if your
business is an information marketing business about exercise and
fitness and you read a blog post about how to run during the
wintertime you could expand on that theme by talking about how to
stay safe when you’re running at in the dark since the winter sun
doesn’t shine nearly as long as the summer sun. You could even start
your post with – “I read a blog post this week about…here are my
thoughts.”
Here are a few other ideas to create new content:
* Ask your readers to post questions and answer them.
* Host a contest.
* Have a guest blogger
* Offer a survey
* Post a video or audio blog
* Review a product or service
* Talk about current trends or controversies in your industry.
