Using Holidays and Special Events To Increase Sales
Holidays and
special events are a great way to increase your sales.
Offering special sales and party themes can motivate people
to book parties; they will want to know how you are going to
spin each holiday into a new theme. Offering parties
dedicated to a special event, such as a baby shower or
bridal shower, opens up new avenues as well.
When deciding how to use a holiday to increase your sales,
take a look at your product and how it might relate to that
holiday. For instance, if you sell cosmetics, you may want
to start reminding your customers about Valentine’s Day in
January. Let them know you can do a special “make over”
party so they are ready for their big Valentine’s Day dates.
Many people take pictures at holiday gatherings If you sell
scrapbooking products, you can put together your own
packages of products that are holiday themed. For instance,
right after Halloween, offer a package that contains a few
sheets of Halloween-patterned paper, a few sheets of neutral
colored cardstock, and some pumpkin or ghost shaped stickers
or die cuts. Offer a small discount if the products are
bought when packaged together versus purchased separately.
Send an email or postal mailing to your customers and let
them know about the special. Include wording such as “I know
you must have taken a bunch of pictures of your kids in
their costumes and I know you want to preserve those
memories right away”, etc.
If you sell kitchen products, adapt your demonstrations to
include holiday specific recipes. In November, you can use
your kitchen tools to create turkey roll-ups or cranberry
snack bars. Let your customers know that your kitchen
products will not only help them store all their
Thanksgiving leftovers, the kitchen tools will help them
create new meal ideas using those leftovers.
Another way to increase your sales is to offer parties that
revolve around special events. If you sell kitchen or home
décor products, have a bride-to-be look through a catalog
and create a registry. At her bridal shower, guests can
order items off of her registry as well as items for their
selves.
If you sell cosmetics, offer a bridal make over party for
brides-to-be and their bridesmaids. Make-over parties also
work great for proms and teenage girls’ birthday parties.
There is also a growing trend for younger, middle-school age
girls to have ‘spa themed’ birthday parties.
Scrapbooking products also work great for any of these
occasions. For a bridal shower, have each guest bring a
picture of their self with the bride (or have the bride pose
for pictures with the guest at the shower). On a scrapbook
page, have the guest write down well wishes for the couple,
offer a recipe or a favorite memory of themselves and the
bride. You can adapt that same theme to fit birthday parties
baby showers.
