Depending on
the direct sales company you have partnered with, their
compensation plan may offer you a percentage of the dollar
amount your team sells each month. Your team consists of the
people you recruit into the company to become consultants,
and those under them. If you are with a direct sales company
that offers this type of compensation, the more you motivate
your team, the higher your profits will be.
Different
people have different reasons for joining direct sales. Some
people just want to receive a product discount, some people
may join to get out of house a couple times a month, and
some join because they really want to change their finances
and make as much money as they can.
You may be in
the last category and you may be self motivated enough just
by the money. However, not everyone on your team will be
that way. If you want your team to be more productive, you
need to motivate them into action. If you want your team to
be more productive, you’ll need to motivate them into
action.
The key to
motivating someone is to find out what they want out of
their business. Ask your team members why they joined the
company. Was it to supplement their family’s income with a
few hundred dollars a month or did they want to replace an
income and earn several thousand each month?
How would that
money change their current lifestyle? Would they be able to
pay off credit card debt? Afford a family vacation? Buy a
bigger house? Get them to start dreaming about what they
want for their futures. Have them write their “why” down on
a piece of paper and give it to you. Whenever they need a
little motivation, remind them of their “why”.
Teach your
team how to set goals. Many people don’t know how to set
goals; since they don’t know what they are trying to
achieve, they do not end up achieving anything. Help each
member of your team set goals each month. Make sure you keep
a copy of each member’s goals and hold weekly accountability
meetings with everyone to keep them on track.
Another fun
way to motivate your team is to hold monthly or weekly
contests. The contests can be for a variety of things, such
as who sells the most product, books the most parties,
recruits the most people, or any other business building
activity. Have each team member send you an email each
night, letting you know what activities they did that day.
Calculate
everyone’s totals and send an email to the group letting
everyone know who is in first, second and third place. This
will create a little “friendly competition”. This can be a
huge motivator for some people. If you choose, have everyone
who is participating chip in $10 to cover the cost of a few
small prizes.
