What Is an Auto-Surf Ponzi Scheme?
A regular Ponzi scheme, is one in which people are asked to
invest money for what seem impossibly high returns in a specified
period. It is a type of pyramid scheme, with the initial levels
making the most money, because it is the subsequent levels who are
recruited, that invest the money paid back to people at impossible
rates like 20% in 30 days. The same "principles" apply to the
auto-surfing Ponzi scams.
Auto-surfing is a program that uses your browser to automatically
surf a given number or list of sites, creating what are called page
impressions, a presence on the site for X number of seconds, which
is enough for that advertiser to be billed for a "hit".
There are non-Ponzi auto-surfing programs, easily recognized by the
fact that they don't offer huge returns. These are run by companies
who sell "hits" or page impressions to advertisers. Typically, they
will guarantee an advertiser 1,000 hits for anywhere from twenty
cents to a dollar, per thousand hits. Your computer is on 24 hours a
day, and it takes a considerable amount of time to make any money,
with the going rate.
Auto-surfing Ponzi schemes require an investment, for which they
will guarantee you some astronomical figure like 1% return every
day. Let's say you invest $1000 for that 1% daily return. That
amounts to $10. Your auto-surfer program would, in the honest world,
have to hit 50,000 sites at a rate of .20 per thousand. But you have
been given an assigned list of sites, and there are only 200 on it.
If you are going to make $1 a day, they'd be paying you a rate of
$50 per thousand.
What they are really doing, is taking the investment paid by people
you recruit, and using a portion of it to pay your daily commission.
But like all pyramid schemes, sooner or later they collapse, when
recruitment drops below a number that means they cannot keep up
their payments to those above the last level.
