Make Money from Your Website - Start a Baby & Toddler Resale Clothing Business

You can earn a living selling gently used baby and toddler clothing. Start by selling your own items on an online auction.

You can also launch your own store online and offline. You can purchase used baby and toddler clothing on consignment, from garage sales.

Baby and Toddler Clothing

What you will be doing. Clothing for babies and young children is just as expensive as everything else these days. It is hard to keep kids in good quality clothing and not go broke. Selling baby and toddler clothing at reasonable prices give parents another option.

This business can niche into the resale of previously worn clothing. Clothing sold has to be excellent quality without visible signs of wear and tear. Final laundering of the clothing should be done by you before you advertise that they are for sale.

All sizes should be included in your inventory to maximize product availability. This business can be specialized further into only girl or only boy clothing if you choose. Any outfit accessories like booties and socks can be purchased new in bulk and the cost savings passed on to your customers.

How to start. Start this business in by going through your own closet. If you have children, then you have baby clothes that you don’t need anymore. Divide the clothing into size, daytime or night time wear, hats, booties, socks, and etcetera.

Once you have cleaned out your own closet, talk to friends and co-workers. Inspecting the items tells which are suitable for sale and which are not. Visiting yard sales on Saturday mornings is another way to find your inventory without paying a high price.

If you plan on selling your clothing on the Internet, you will need pictures. This gives customers an idea of the types of clothing that you will be selling.

Start up costs. For this type of business the costs may total a few hundred dollars depending on what equipment you already have.

For shipping purposes, you will need boxes that are big enough to handle the number of items you need to send to customers.

A digital camera is useful for Internet business and/or a catalogue when you reach that point in your business.

Skills needed. A retailer needs to know something about their product and how to market it. Clothes are a fickle business. What might be popular one day may be out of fashion the next. Keeping up with the latest trends, even in toddler and infant wear is important.

Clothing retailers need to be detail oriented and organized. While your business is small, you are the receptionist, advertising executive, order puller and filler, customer service representative, and the company president. Wearing many hats requires planning and patience.

Retailers deal with the public. Talking to people is a skill that will serve you well in this business. Approaching shop owners, talking to customers at a flea market, and on the phone when they have a problem with the order, requires tact, fast thinking, and a positive attitude.

Marketing. Advertising can be accomplished through flyers to local consignment shops, daycares, churches, and throughout neighborhoods. Flea markets give an avenue to reach wider audiences. Pass out business cards even if the person does not buy something that day.

A website gives you a place to show your new pieces. Start a forum for customers to talk about your products and other issues. People can check out the forum and see what is said about your products. They can also offer suggestions for what they would like to see that you do not currently offer

Resale of baby and toddler clothing fills a need in most communities. The business can turn a profit quicker because very little money is needed to get started. If you know how to use a sewing machine, you can mend and sell torn clothes instead of throwing them away.
