Baptism Gift Basket
Sacramental events are special in a person’s life. The experience is
different for everybody. But, such spiritual events symbolize a
relationship with God. Here are some ideas for gift baskets when a
person is going to or has undergone the sacrament of baptism.
Baptism reflects a desire to give up a former way of life to follow
God. Before and after baptism, believers take classes at their
church to learn how to live their new lifestyle. Your gift can help
them understand their spiritual experience.
A simple basket design is appropriate. If the person is a young
girl, you can choose a basket with a handle so she can carry all of
the treasures you got for her everywhere she goes. As long as it’s
not perishable, everything can be displayed in the basket for as
long as she likes. Since most guys might think of a basket with a
handle as being feminine, a cloth lined basket with or without
handles on the side makes for a perfect presentation.
So, what can be placed inside? In my church after a baptism, the
newly baptized individuals receive a Bible with their name engraved
on it. If this is not something that your house of worship does,
include a Bible in the basket. A large one can be used for home
bible study and a pocket size Bible they can keep on them.
To encourage them in the faith, symbols of our commitment to God are
outward signs of who we are. A necklace, bracelet, T-shirts,
stationery, pens, and the like are fun things that also tell people
about God. Guys do wear necklaces, but you might want to get one
that has a thicker chain or one made of rope. It looks more
masculine. The same goes for the bracelet.
Tapes and CDs containing worship music and recorded lessons uplift
when times are tough. A mug and some soothing tea or cider
complements an evening or morning listening to the Word of God.
Don’t forget the sweet treats. Everyone wants a little sweetness in
their basket. Chocolates, hard candy, cookies, and the like are good
additions.
A basket of faith shows that you want the act of baptism to be just
the beginning of their journey. Use these ideas and your own to
create a great gift.
