Bon Voyage Gift Basket

So the day has arrived for the big cruise or trip overseas. Let the person going on the trip know that you will miss them and want them to have a good time. Here are some ideas for a bon voyage gift basket.

A bon voyage basket is more specific than a traveler’s gift basket. Here, you know where the person is going and can tailor the gift. For someone traveling to Paris, France, include a French-English dictionary. They could use a digital translator for quick phrase translation in restaurants and such.

What about a person taking a cruise? Everyone says that the boat doesn’t feel like it is rocking, but only those on the ship can tell you that for sure. What is a cruise without Dramamine? It could be a very miserable one. Don’t forget the Alka-Seltzer for hangovers and aspirin for the morning after they’ve spent all night dancing.

Everyone wants a proper send off. Include some silk flower leis and some dried fruit. They might be leaving the country so customs may frown on taking fruit and veggies out but a bag or two of dried pineapples and other fruit should be okay.

That long plane ride overseas will be boring enough without something to do. Send them off with a CD or mp3 player filled with appropriate music for the destination. A trip to Jamaica wouldn’t be the same without a little reggae music to listen to on the plane to set the mood.

What about their outfits? Tropical climates require shorts, bug spray, and hideously flowered shirts. It is like a gag gift but they may just wear it. How about a trip to California? Don’t send them off without a book on the sights to see and places to visit. Maps are always helpful when you don’t know the area.

What about foreign money? I’m not saying to finance their trip, but a pouch with one of every coin they will see, in it gets them ready for the trip. It’s fun for you and them to see the money used in other places.
