Start a Car Window Decals Business

Advertising is everywhere, including vehicles on the street. Business owners need decals to advertise their own businesses or to label their company cars.

Everybody from website owners, real estate agents and pizza delivery joints need car window decals.

What you will be doing. Car decals are everywhere. Businesses use decals to advertise their services. Pizza places use decals on cars. Advertisers use car decals on race cars, custom cars, and vans. Selling custom car decals are also used by dealers and manufacturers to create unique cars to sell.

Decals come in all shapes and sizes. Customers look for something that peaks their interest. You will be selling to car dealers, custom car shops, the car connoisseur, and businesses that want to advertise through decals.

How to start. Investigate the business. See what decals are popular these days on everyday cars and on higher end cars. Visit trade shows and car shops to see how decals are applied and removed. Read magazines and books about decals and the car industry.

If you are an artistic person, make your own sketches of decal designs complete with color schemes. In order to produce these designs you will need a computer with graphics software. Storage containers with drawers big enough for all size decals can be placed in a garage or home office for storage.

Start up costs. You can carry a larger amount of inventory because space is not an issue. The cost of decals depends on the size and intricacy. You could spend as much as $500 for inventory and marketing materials.

A website gives you room to advertise and show what you have available. Setting up an online forum allows car buffs to talk and exchange information about business likes and dislikes. Customers get a chance to weigh in on your products and what they would like to see.

Skills needed. Decal business owners need to be proactive. Marketing is all important in this business. Networking with car dealers and car enthusiasts give you an inside track on what will sell best. Businesses that use decals on their cars, trucks and vans will look for a supplier who is conscientious, knowledgeable about their product, and available.

Marketing. Partner with a larger dealer to create your own decals from your designs to offer to potential clients. Display pictures of your own samples on your website to see if they will sell before ordering too many. Take polls to see which of your designs fans like most. You can even offer free decals to customers that order in bulk.

Car shows are a prime spot to advertise and show products that will enhance their cars. This is the time to bring out your most unique and outrageous designs. Capture their interest and then offer other decals that they can use for everyday customer cars that cost less.
