Christmas Gift Baskets

Everybody loves the holidays. It is a time to spend with family and friends. Oh, the presents don’t hurt either. Instead of doing what you’ve always done as it pertains to gift giving choose to create unique gift baskets for as many people as you can.

Most people ask others for the big ticket items that they like to get for Christmas. With so many stars in our eyes, we forget about the little things. I know that there are at least a dozen things that I will “wish” I had at different times during the year. But, when Christmas rolls around, I can’t think of a one.

When those around you start wishing like I do, make a mental note and then create a list. The things we set our minds on when we aren’t thinking about Christmas are smaller, but no less desired. A basket full of those things would be a surprise indeed.

The gift basket doesn’t have to be large to be valued by the recipient. A small basket filled with assorted candles, candle holders, and soft music can be the beginnings of a relaxation corner for someone who needs a break every once in a while. The same can be said for a CD case that you fill with a variety of CDs as a gift. The CD case becomes the proverbial “basket.”

Let your imagination run wild. How about an artificial Christmas tree with various gift cards hanging from it like ornaments? Talk about a money tree!

Do you know people who like religious symbols and ornamentation at Christmas? Create a gift basket out of a miniature manger. Instead of straw, fill it with decorative paper strips topped with Christmas movies, figurines, CDs or tapes of Christmas hymns, and similar things.

Crafts are big around the holidays. Maybe you like to crochet or knit. Don’t spend money buying sweaters and slippers for people. Knit them together yourself. One year I made crocheted blankets for my family. Everyone received a different color and size.

Even with gift baskets for Christmas, start early so you don’t have a lot of work to do at the end. Surprise someone with a basket filled with what they wanted but forgot about.
