Learn How to Start a Computer Training Business from Your Home
What you will be doing. Everyone that buys a
computer is not knowledgeable about all of the programs that
are loaded on it. Most people use what they can figure out
and ignore the rest. This is a shame since all of the
applications could be useful to them.
As a computer trainer, you can offer tutorials and online
training sessions to people that need to learn all about
their computers. Your training packages can include one
program or as many as you want to offer together. The
information will provide step by step instructions to make
the person literate about Excel, Access, Word, Publishing,
and other Microsoft applications.
Video training courses are popular because the customer can
see images of the screen and follow along. You can sell
video courses on eBay for individual or company use. Knowing
the latest software, will help you offer timely and
currently needed services.
How to start. Learn the ins and outs of computers.
Teaching software applications will require you to be able
to use the programs yourself. Learning how to troubleshoot a
computer’s hard drive provides another useful tool that you
can offer to customers.
You will need a work space to run programs, create tutorial
videos, and access the Internet. A room in your home can
hold all the equipment you will need with ease. Your
computer should be state of the art to hold and operate all
of the applications you will be using for training.
Start up costs. Software is expensive. Some will
already be loaded on your computer but others will need to
be purchased. Manuals on computer repair and how to service
the hard drive are resources that can increase your
knowledge about the computer itself.
Advertising needs to be done at the beginning to attract
people to your website. Total, you may be looking at $500
dollars depending heavily on what software you purchase. If
you start with the applications already present on your
computer to begin training, the cost will be much lower.
Skills needed. Knowledge of computers is a must. The
more you know, the more information you can impart to your
customers for their buying dollar. Customer service skills
and a positive attitude combine to inspire confidence and
trust on the part of your business customers. They are
paying you to increase their knowledge. This takes patience
especially if the customer is computer illiterate.
Know your target audience. Your training materials will need
to be very detailed and in simple language for older clients
and those who know nothing about computers. If one video is
too long for a training session, divide it up into a video
series that can be watched in thirty or forty-five minute
sessions.
Marketing. Sell your training materials on eBay.
Corporate customers will pay for well put together packages.
These are cheaper than having someone come in and do a
training session in person.
On your website offer a technical support component to your
services. If customers know that they can talk to you in the
event something goes wrong, they may be more apt to buy your
service products. Be sure to specify the length of this
service and the hours.
Buy ad space on computer websites, advertising websites, and
any free sites. Writing technical articles and instructional
articles for websites will send more people looking for your
website for additional services.
Computer training will be needed as long as there is new
software and new advances in computer technology. Your
services will expand as the industry does.
