Divorce Gift Basket

It is an unfortunate fact, but statistics show that fifty percent of marriages end in divorce. While no one wishes to be divorced it will happen to one out of every two people. If you know someone who is recently divorced, this could be a great time to bring them some comfort in the form of a gift basket.

A divorce is hard for everyone involved. As a spouse it is like suffering a death—the death of love. For whatever reason, two people can no longer live together as one. We often think of women when it comes to divorce, but men suffer as well. They may hide their disappointment and pain better, but they are still dealing with a crushing blow.

Let your divorced friend, family member, or coworker know that you are thinking of them. Deliver a gift basket to them filled with items to help them through their ordeal. When things all around you are falling apart it helps to be surrounded with familiar things that make you happy.

Fill a basket with those things. If your friend loves movies, fill a basket with DVDs of their favorite movies. And, what goes better than candy and popcorn with a good movie? On the off chance that they feel like going out, add a book of movie gift certificates to the local theater.

Besides fun things like movies, spa visits, or a round of golf, think about relaxation. A night to think about something other than the divorce is a godsend. It is okay for them to think of themselves and to nurture themselves through all of this.

A basket filled with good books, gourmet coffee and/or teas, a mug or two, and some music CDs encourage rest and introspection. Throw in a few bath oils and they can soak while they drink their tea and listen to music.

What types of books you say? Choose something uplifting. Many turn to their faith during hard times. Reading material that reinforces the presence of God in their life as a tower of strength is a good start.

The basket need not be fancy, but useful. A basket with a lid that can close keeps your special gifts private and just for them when they need them.
