Equipment to Start a Medical Transcription Business
Here is another question and answer to getting started as a
medical transcriptionist.
What Equipment Do I Need to Start a Medical
Transcription Business?
If you're catering to local
doctor's offices or smaller accounts chances are your doctor
will still dictate on a hand held recorder onto a mini
cassette.
In this case you'll need a mini cassette transcriber which
includes a foot pedal and headphones. The foot pedal lets you
rewind, fast forward and play the dictation.
You can pick one of these up brand new at your local office
store for about $150 or second hand for as little as $40, check
on eBay or local newspaper ads.
If you're doctor is a little more technologically advanced and
dictates over voice files on the internet you'll simply need an
audio player transcription software. You can download a free
one here.
In this case you'll still need a foot pedal and headphones
which you can pick up locally or order online. The audio file
is played through your Express Scribe software and the
functions are controlled through your foot pedal.
Other than your basic transcription equipment you'll need a
high speed internet access for easily sending files, a fax
machine is a great help and some basic office stationary.
You may also need a good printer if you're printing and mailing
or delivering paper reports. And don't forget a comfy office
chair since you'll spend a lot of your time typing.
