Start a Video Event Business

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video must be priceless.

Families love to capture their special memories just as they happened.

Videos are being made of special events like weddings, anniversaries, graduations, and other family celebrations.

They can also follow a child throughout his or her life, or a family on vacation.

A lot of times families have videotaped bits of footage here and there, but don’t know how to put it together in an appealing way that does justice to their memories. Or, they might have a video of a special event that needs to be edited. If you have video taping, editing, or production skills, you can put them to work and start your own family and event video service.

In a family and event video service, you would edit and produce videos. You would take your clients' video footage, add text, photos, music, to it to make a professional-grade video. Depending on what types of services you want to offer, you might even do some videotaping too.

To start your own video service, you will need to purchase the equipment you need. However, with advances in technology the equipment is easier to operate and costs less than it used to. You can set up a service with a high-end computer, production software, a camera and some basic sound equipment. The exact equipment you need will depend on the specific services you offer.

You will also need to decide how and where you will work. You may want to have it exclusively online. You can also choose to go out and do some of the video taping yourself. 

One thing that will make it easier for you to find your market and advertise your business is to specialize in creating a specific type of video. You can specialize in creating wedding videos or family videos, or even videos of a child's life. Once you know what your niche is, you will know where to find your customers.  

Remember to research your market and what your competitors are charging. It can be tempting to get your first customers by charging less than everyone else. However, by charging lower prices, you won't necessarily get customers.

Most people understand that you get what you pay for. Your clients are looking for someone who will treasure their special memories. By lowering your prices, you may lose some jobs. 

To get started, ask family and friends if they know anyone who's having a special event. Tell them about your service and how it can help them. Many people are looking on the internet to plan their special events online, so be sure you have a website that describes your service.  

If your market includes families who want their vacation videos or home videos of their children edited, consider placing ads in your newspaper or community papers, other publications that families read. You can also post flyers at places that families frequent.  

Videos are very popular with almost everyone right now. They're a wonderful way to preserve special memories. If you have skill in creating, editing and producing quality videos, this may be a good home business opportunity for you.
