How to Start a Children’s Party Craft Business from Home

What you will be doing. Parents are always giving parties for their little ones. It could be a birthday party, end of school celebration, or confirmation get-together. Whatever their needs, crafts of some kind will be involved. Children like to create things and your business will provide that for the party planners.

As a crafter, you will create your own craft ideas and sell other craft items. If individual items are needed for craft ideas, you can carry a line of craft products like glitter glue, craft sticks, foam accents, paint brushes, and etcetera. Anything that a party planner may need for crafting activities, they can find on your website.

Designing your own crafting kits puts all the essentials in one package for a great price. If you like to create activity pages, put together your own book and sell it along with the individual supplies to complete the activities. You are creating a business that provides everything under one umbrella.

How to start. Start your business with the sale of crafting supplies. Buying in bulk from a wholesaler lets you offer lower prices to customers. Developing a virtual catalogue that customers can flip through gives them an idea of what you carry. Creating craft supply baskets passes on discounts to customers by having all the supplies together.

Start a website forum. Give advice on age appropriate crafts and crafting ideas. This also gives you an opportunity to see what types of products customers want to see on your website.

All the while, work on your own crafting ideas. Be sure to test the crafts for sturdiness and durability. Well made crafts will sell for better prices. If there is an interest in your craft ideas, put together and market kits.

Start up costs. If you go with a wholesaler, you won’t need to carry inventory. Your costs will be for advertising space. Creating your own crafts or craft supply baskets will require materials for assembly. A digital camera will aid in taking and uploading images of your products to the website. Shipping from your address will be necessary unless you pay a manufacturer to assemble your kits and ship them.

Working with a wholesaler translates into lower start up costs. Once the business brings in some money, you can start on the other areas of your business.

Skills needed. The most important skill is creativity. You want to offer something unique to your customers that children will like and parents can’t get anywhere else. This will take research. Investigating the newest ideas in party themes will help you develop craft ideas that complement these themes.

Knowledge of children is important. If children like the crafts and find them easy, parents will use your service again. Crafting pieces should not be small enough to pose a choking hazard or sharp. Instructions should be easy to follow for parents and children.

Marketing. Children oriented websites and home business websites are perfect places to buy advertising space. Your website should have easy to use pages where customers can browse and order with no hassles. Other websites like eBay can be used to advertise your services and sell any specialty items with links to your business website.

Crafts are a great way to make money if you are artistic and love doing it. Children love to make things and your crafts could be what parents need. Keep them simple and easy to use for more fun and bigger profits.
