Start a Personal Organizers Business
What you will be doing.
Some people are so busy that they can’t keep their schedules
straight. They miss meetings or lunch dates because they
lose track of time or their appointment book. On the other
hand, there are people who have a knack for organization.
With fifty things to do each day, they manage to do it all
with ease.
How to start.
Start with friends and family members. Show them how to
organize their lives and see what the outcome is. There are
books available that talk about organizing and offer tips
for how to accomplish this with a large or small budget.
Your business will need a name. If you will be offering
your services as a consultant, a business license and
business insurance are prudent things to invest in. Develop
a template of questions to ask of the client and a system
for presenting your suggestions.
Starting costs.
The bulk of your starting costs will be on advertising and
office equipment. You will be interacting with clients a
bit but a space to write your notes and create reports is
needed. A computer with Internet access, telephone, fax
machine, and a printer are enough.
If you plan on offering your services online, you need to
set up a website from which to work. The website can
feature questionnaires to help clients share what they are
looking for. If the client is far away, you can speak via
phone or webcam. Plan on spending at least $500 and that is
if you have the office hardware.
Skills needed.
A personal organizer loves to organize. Enjoyment comes
with the challenge of each client’s life and issues.
Communication skills are pertinent to meet the needs of the
client. Be sure that you understand what they are asking
for.
Marketing.
Advertise in the local newspaper and Yellow Pages. If you
want to invest the money up front, secure air time on radio
or do a television spot. Trade shows are a way to meet
professionals that could have a problem with organization.
Offering a free consultation peaks their interest. An online
website will greatly help and should be considered into your
marketing plan.
Mailing brochures to local companies can get some nibbles.
Not only does management need organization, but others in
the company as well. You could net a contract to give a
seminar to the entire company.
Post ads on home based business websites and mom business
websites. Stay-at-home moms with businesses have to juggle
kids and business. They could benefit from the services of
a personal organizer.
Personal organizing is a skill that has far reaching
implications. Use your skills to make a profit and help
others at the same time.
