Start a Print Ad Magazine Business

A print ad magazine showcases not only businesses in the area but those advertising vehicle sales, yard sales, for sale by owner homes, and other ads that people want to get to the public. Depending on the size of your area, the print ad magazine can specialize in one category such as pets, gardening, or real estate.  

How to start.   Check with the charge for advertising in newspapers, magazines, and Yellow Pages. Your prices for ads will need to be competitive but can come in under the wire because your overhead is less. Keep in mind where this magazine will be marketed.

How will you make your money?   Many charge for the ads to finance advertising in places where the ads will get noticed and used. If your magazine brings in business for the advertisers they will recommend you to their friends.

A computer, telephone, desktop publishing software, and a printer are all you need in the beginning. Map out the size of your ads along with a price list, length of run time, and size of font. Businesses that want to add their logo will need to send a file containing the logo that you can integrate into the ad. Starting costs.  Assessing the need for printing help will determine a good portion of the startup costs. If you have printing savvy, the magazine can be run in your home on a computer.

Once the magazine grows in size, it will be time to consult a printer to get the magazine published. Equipment and advertising will be the typical startup costs for a business like this. With a good marketing campaign and $500 to $1,000, this magazine can get off the ground.

Marketing skills will sell the magazine. You must convince others to become a part of your mailing list for the magazine. Stores need to be convinced to carry your print ad magazine.

Marketing.  This is going to be a crucial part of the success of the print ad magazine. You can send out magazines to people all over town but a targeting marketing campaign would be less expensive.

This may require buying a mailing list that pertains to the people most interested in the ads that you will carry. For businesses, a direct marketing campaign will tell the advantages of using such a magazine for business resources. Which businesses you target will depend on the niche of the magazine.
