How to Find Scrapbooking Wholesalers

Turning your scrapbooking hobby into a business is not that difficult.  Perhaps the hardest part is finding good wholesale suppliers.  But with a little research, you can find a reliable supplier with reasonable prices. 

Before you begin looking, you might want to obtain a Certificate of Resale if they are required in your state.  Most wholesalers require you to have one before they will sell to you at wholesale prices.  Check your state’s Department of Revenue website for details and prices. 

Wholesale forums can be a valuable source of information about wholesalers.  There are many such forums available for free.  There you can read about other retailers’ experiences with various companies, and maybe even get recommendations. 

There are numerous websites offering listings of wholesale suppliers.  While these sites are a good place to start, you should always investigate a company before establishing a relationship with them.  Here are some things to look for: 

·         A quick look at the company’s website can tell you a lot about the company.  Look for professional design, well-written content, and readily available contact information.  While these traits hold no guarantees, lack of them is a bad sign.

·         Do a Google search on the company’s name and see what comes up.  If others have had problems with them, it is possible that they may have posted about it on a forum or blog.  In extreme cases, you might even find a news story about it.

·         Check with the Better Business Bureau.  The BBB Online’s website has complaints listed by web address.  You should also check the BBB chapter that is local to the company in question. 

Some wholesale listing sites require you to pay a fee to gain access.  These should be investigated as thoroughly as you would a wholesale company itself.  They often do not contain any information that you couldn’t find on your own, but they can save you some time searching for suppliers and reviews.

Remember that the best wholesale supplier for someone else might not necessarily be the best one for you.  When you are starting out, you might want to find a supplier that will sell in smaller quantities rather than one that offers the best prices but only sells in large quantities.  You should also check out a potential supplier’s accepted payment methods and terms, as well as return policies.  Knowing these things ahead of time can save you time and money down the road.
