Start a Spa Products Business
What you will be doing.
Ever visit a spa for the day or a weekend? The treatments
are invigorating and relaxing at the same time. Sometimes
you feel that if you had those products you would feel that
good all of the time. But, where can you get those products
outside of the spa?
How to start.
Do your homework. Find out what type of products the spas
in your area are using. Check with wholesalers to find that
same product or a comparable product that costs less.
Compare price and ingredients. The cheaper priced product
would sell with your customers if they knew they could get
the same results for less.
If you would rather buy into a franchise, you can do an
Internet search for those that specialize in spa products.
The cost will be higher to start, but you have the backing
of a bigger entity when it comes to quality of products and
reliability. For this type of venture, a small business
loan may be in order.
Starting costs.
Look to spend around $2,000-$10,000. The higher end of the
scale would be for franchisers. The number may even be
higher than that depending on the franchise. You will need
to purchase some inventory for local customers. Online
business customers can have product drop shipped to them
from the wholesaler. This eliminates the need for inventory
if you conduct online business only.
Any local marketing would require products that can be
delivered or mailed to customers. Selling at flea markets
and trade shows require equipment for booth set up and
rental fees. Advertising in local and online media will
gain visibility for you and your business.
Skills needed.
Knowledge of how spa products are designed to work is
helpful, but not necessary. If you have experience in the
spa business, you will be able to tell customers things that
the average person may not know. Recommendations can be
made for products based on skin type, allergies, and
personal needs of customers.
An outgoing personality makes customers feel comfortable and
relaxed. If someone is not under pressure to buy something
from you, they are more likely to buy. Work your charm and
bring in the profits.
Marketing.
Pound that pavement. As a massage professional, you could
host parties where gets get a mini-massage or facial with
the products with each product purchased. Ads in the local
newspaper and directories alert potential customers about
your existence. If you have the money, a television spot on
the public access channel can be beneficial to your bottom
line.
Spa products that cost less and deliver the same quality are
money makers. People can set up a spa day right in their
home.
