The greatest influence in my life was a teacher. Teachers have a hard job but they do it because they care about students. Their desire to learn is only overshadowed by their desire to impart knowledge to others. For that special teacher in your life, here are some ideas for gift baskets.

There is a teacher appreciation week that most schools observe each year, but a gift basket doesn’t have to wait until then to be shared. Teacher gift baskets can be given on a teacher’s birthday, if they are moving away, if they are new to the school, and anytime in between. In a profession that can seem non-appreciative at times, your teacher will be glad for the sentiment.

The traditional gift for a teacher is an apple. We’ve all heard the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” No one wanted their favorite teacher to be sick. Choose an assorted fruit basket that includes various types of apples. A jug of pressed apple cider, a book on apples, and a couple of tumblers should keep him or her healthy for a few months at least.

Let’s suppose that teachers like to read. It seems like they would since they have gone through all that schooling to be your teacher. A basket of fun to read books and puzzles provide hours of relaxation for a teacher who has spent all day trying to teach you! Everyone deserves some downtime. The puzzles can be brainteasers, number puzzles like the popular Sudoku, crosswords, or their favorite game if you know one.

For a new teacher, the gift basket can include supplies that can be used in the course of their day. Fill the basket with sticky note pads, pencils, pens, stickers, decals, markers, notebooks, and other teacher necessities, like a candy bowl for the students. Instead of a basket, place all the good stuff in a replica of a wooden school house or a stylish tote bag that they can continue to use.

Being a teacher is hard work but the students make it worthwhile. Show your teacher that you appreciate their time with a teacher-oriented gift basket.
