Start a Time Management Consultant Business  

What you will be doing.  Time seems to be the one thing that we have a lot of at the beginning of the day, but slowly we realize that it gets away from us as the day goes on.  The thing we waste the most is time and for companies, that means money.  Learning to manage the workload more efficiently is a company goal that requires a time management consultant like you. 

A time management consultant reviews the day to day processes of a company and offers proposals for streamlining the work.  These proposals include ways to maximize work done in the least amount of time, keep employees satisfied, and reduce overhead costs for companies by using time more wisely. 

How to startTime management consultants have usually worked in a particular area of industry.  This gives the consultant the familiarity needed to come up with time management options.  Come up with a business plan.  You may not need a small business loan, but the business plan will focus your efforts in finding clients.    

Starting costs.  A home office gives you the space to create reports and presentations for your clients.  A time management consultant needs a computer with high speed Internet access, time management and spreadsheet software, printer, telephone, copier, and fax machine.  Plan to spend as much as $3,000 without a computer or as little as $750 if you already have one.   

Skills needed.  You must be able to manage time yourself.  Scheduling meetings with clients and developing a timeline for product delivery will require you to meet the agreed upon deadlines.  If you have more than one client, scheduling will be even more crucial.  Since you will be speaking to executives or groups of employees from specific departments, good speaking and presentation skills get your point across to the target audience.

Marketing.  To keep your start up costs low, use word of mouth advertising.  If you have friends in a particular industry, use them as contacts to pass the word about your new venture.  Not only do time management consultants work for corporations and small businesses, they work in educational arenas, civic organizations, and churches. 

Getting your own website up and running will advertise your services on a larger scale.  Sell the materials that you use to conduct corporate classes on your website.  Publishing articles on sites like Associated Content and Squidoo with links back to your website will increase traffic.  Ads in trade magazines and mass mailings to local companies are other ways to advertise. 

Managing time is something we can all use help with.  The field is still wide open, so this is the perfect time to define your niche and let your skills make businesses more efficient.
