- Learn a Few things: Learn the various aspects of your business and do your research. Talk to other self-publishers, read books and get educated. Even if you hire people to help you along the way, you will be educated enough to choose the most cost-effective people.

- Keep it Short, Sweet & Concise: If your book is around or under 100 pages, you will save a lot of money on publishing costs and will be able to sell your book at a lower cost.

- Weighing Quality / Cost / Content: Does your audience like a highly polished product? Are they cost-sensitive or is the content of the book that is most important? Assess your target market...most audiences have very specific tastes and needs that can be made to fit your budget.

For example, if you are writing a book about fashion and your audience wants nice glossy photos and a "fancy" product, they are more likely willing to pay for it. Check your competition and see what they are charging and see if you can make it work within your budget.
