Toys have come a long way since the first tales of Santa Claus.  Toys used to be made of wood, then metal, and now plastic.  The materials aside, kid’s faces light up when they see their little playthings.

Before deciding what goes into the basket, determine who it is for.  Boys and girls usually want different things.  A girl’s gift basket may be filled with dolls of varying sizes, extra clothes, and other accessories.  Boys, on the other hand, prefer toy guns, cars, action figures, and a drum set.

Let the toy gift basket fit the recipient.  A kid into sports will love a basket full of sports gear.  The same goes for a child who fancies stuffed animals.  With so many toys on the market, you’d have to know the child well to get it right.

Kids are finicky so ask their parents before filling the basket.  If the child is yours, the toy choices may be a bit easier to make. 

Baskets are not a favorite plaything of young kids.  Consider using a pop up clothing hamper or a small storage crate as the basket.  Each can be used to store old toys while they play with the new ones.

Kids are not the only ones who would enjoy toys.  Adults like toys of a different sort.  An adult or two is known to collect antique dolls or popular toys like trains.  When the Beanie Baby craze was going on, people paid high prices for the rarer editions. 

If the toy gift basket person is a collector, add to their collection.  For pricey collectibles, fill the empty space in the gift basket with small accessories for the collectible.  Who said that the toys have to be played with?
