Stumped For Content. Three Alternatives to Beating a Dead
Horse.
It doesn’t matter how much someone loves their business subject
matter, eventually they’ll run out of ideas to write about. It
happens to everyone, even professional writers. The result…numerous
articles and blog posts all saying the same thing in a different
way. There’s no doubt about it, the challenge of keeping content
fresh and new is a tough one. Here are three alternatives to writing
the same content over and over again:
Write something controversial. Mix it up. If there’s been
something on your mind or an undercurrent in your industry that no
one talks about, talk about it! Bring it up, flesh it out, and let
your prospects, customers, and website visitors weigh in. It’ll
generate conversation and potentially spice things up on your
website for a little while. Additionally, some of the new traffic
your controversial topic brings in will stick with you. Now,
controversial doesn’t mean offensive it simply means something that
would arouse controversy.
If you’re a fitness instructor then a controversial topic might be
an article about dieting or the even more controversial topic of
steroid use. One well respected copywriter wrote an article once
about how blogs and blog content was basically worthless. Boy did he
get a response! It generated a ton of traffic to his website and
many subsequent articles.
Hire a ghostwriter. And ask them to research topics. A
ghostwriter will likely come up with very different topics about
your industry than you do because the topic is fresh to them. If
hiring a ghostwriter isn’t something you’re comfortable with or that
fits into your budget, hire an assistant to research topics for you.
It’s a great way to broaden your content horizons.
Collaborate. If you’re writing content for a blog, find a
guest blogger or three, if you’re writing content for article
marketing or newsletters find a relevant business to partner with
and trade content. For example if you’re a fitness instructor find a
nutritionist and swap content. They can write an article for your
newsletter and you can write one for theirs. Article marketing
content can be collaborated on so that both viewpoints are
represented on any single topic. For example, the fitness instructor
and the nutritionist can write an article together about nutrition
requirements for competitive female athletes or an article about
exercise and nutrition during pregnancy. The sky is the limit when
collaborating with a compatible business.
Creating useful and interesting content is one of the most time
consuming challenges of owning an internet based business. It is,
however, a necessity. To keep content fresh and interesting, not
just for your prospects and customers but for yourself too, let go a
little. Add some controversy, add a new voice, and step outside the
box to bring in useful content from unexpected areas. Your readers
will thank you for it!
