Now let’s get down to business. Last week we gave you some compelling reasons why every online business owner should have their own information products. This week we’re going to talk a little more about the steps you can take to start putting together your information product:

Your first step should ALWAYS be market research. You may be excited about your new idea and can’t wait to get started, but remember to take the time and do your research before putting the time and energy into a new project.

A good place to start is online forums or other websites related to your target market. See what problems people have and what questions they need answered. If you see other information products out there in your same market chances are there's a need for your product. Don't be afraid of a little competition...if other people are making money selling a similar product, that means there's likely an opportunity for you.

Do a search on your product keywords and take a look at the sponsored results. These are the results that usually come up to the right or above the search engine results. If you see ads for information products in your chosen market this means someone is paying to advertise their products, which usually means there is likely a demand. Look at the results over a few days to see if the same ads keep coming up. If the same advertisers are paying for sponsored listings then they should be making a profit.

You can also poll your subscribers and customers on what they need. What information are they looking for and can’t readily find?

WAHM Talk Radio Notes from Kelly 

My guest this week is Jodi Plishka. Jodi made it into the top 12 finalists on ABC's American Inventor in 2006. Her product is Headline It, a specialty item for those who wear wigs and hats for long periods of time.

Jodi is a single mother with a ten year old daughter. She is an award winning children's book author and a real inspiration to work at home moms everywhere.

I also have Monica Brooks on this week's show. Monica has written her own Cookie Cookbook titled 'The Guaranteed No Burnt Bottoms Cookie Cookbook'. She is producing a video podcast from her own kitchen with the help of her techie loving husband.

Avon Products Inc., Amway Corp., and Mary Kay Inc. reportedly have all been granted direct-selling licenses in China. In 1998 the Chinese government stopped the door-to-door sales of foreign-backed company products until new rules and regulations could be developed. If China's current economic growth rate continues, it could prove to be a major market for the companies.
