Using Blogs to
Build Client Relationships
Many of us work at
home moms maintain blogs for business and pleasure. Even if you try to keep
your personal ideas on one blog and your business ideas on another, keep in mind
that the Internet provides pervasive access to any and all. When you blog
always blog as if anyone will be reading your blogs, including your clients…and
the people they serve.
With that in mind,
it would be wise to incorporate plugs and promotions about your clients’
businesses whenever appropriate and relevant.
For instance,
let’s say you have a client that is a realtor and you are blogging on your
personal site about the drop in real estate values in your community and how
this has affected your re-sale plans. What an opportunity this could be to talk
about the real estate advice and consultation services that your client
provides.
If you have a
strong or growing audience, this could be a goodwill gesture that could actually
translate to more business for your client.
Do you Twitter?
Twitter.com is the real-time micro-blogging tool that’s a media darling at
present. It has been credited with influencing everything from the recent U.S.
presidential election to “mom” consumers of pain relief products like Motrin
(Google “Motrin controversy on Twitter” to find out more).
If you’re active
on Twitter and have a following of influential or up and coming small business
owners, publish ‘tweets’ about your top clients. Your tweets will get in front
of your own followers and the millions of other users viewing the public
“twitter timeline.”
More business for
your clients means they’ll be able to more frequently utilize your fine
services. Just ensure that whenever you post about your client’s business you
let them know so they’ll be aware of your efforts to boost their bottom line!
This is the kind
of relationship building activity that has more currency than flowery emails and
“form letters” to your client/prospect list. If you’re working with the best,
let the world know.
Share Tips and
Resources with Clients
Since you’re a
savvy business owner who’s connected to a top resource like
InternetBasedMoms.com, you’re apt to know a lot about the most current and
effective online business practices today.
Why not share that
relevant information with your clients?
For example, if as
a result of discussions in our forum or news posted on our InternetBasedMoms.com
website you become aware of some new technological release or product that’s
news to share with your clients who rely on the newest technology.
That kind of news
could save your client money and maybe even some frustration. The more you act
like a concerned business partner the more your clients will appreciate and
trust your judgement and that strengthens your working relationship.
Do you have the
Time to Do Research?
If you’re worried
about finding the time to keep abreast of current affairs and trends that might
affect your business and the clients you serve…think again. You market research
should be part of your business plan. Unless you have thousands of dollars to
pay consultants to keep you up to speed I’d recommend you put just a few minutes
each day to see what’s hot and what’s not in your industry.
Just like many
people like to read the morning paper to know what’s going on in their
community, so too should you read the appropriate publications to know what’s
going on in your segment of the marketplace.
Block about 30
minutes each day to read from your custom list of favorite and popular
newspapers/publications. You’ll end up learning about new products, services,
marketing trends and best practices in your market.
The knowledge you
pick up could make a big difference in how you work and could be quite inspiring
as well. You’d be surprised at the kinds of ideas that you can come up with for
your business and for your clients all based on a review of some of the top
publications in technology, marketing, small business and your own particular
niche.
To get you
started, here are some great websites to consider adding to your daily review of
the “news to know”:
