Hope you had a relaxing weekend are ready to get down to work this week! Last we week we talked a little bit about providing a service as a good way to make money from home. This week lets talk about how you can start a transcription service from the comfort of your own home and make a nice cushy income in the process.

Transcription services are in big demand. With a little marketing and getting the word out about your business you should have clients in no time. You can promote your transcription business locally or online… there is a huge range of clients you could work with.

The best part about this type of service is it’s easy to get started. You don’t need any special qualifications or certificate. All you need is to be a reasonably fast typist (the faster you can type the more you make), have a good eye for detail and be very detailed.

So this is different to medical transcription where you would need to take a course to learn medical terminology.

Also if you feel you can’t type very fast at the moment, don’t worry many new transcriptionists can’t – with a little practice and a good typing software you’ll improve in no time.

Here’s an example of how you can make money with your transcription business:

Market your services to online marketers and business owners – This group uses audio regularly to build their business, which is good news for transcriptionists – you can get plenty of work in this field.

Market to a specific group or niche – You can provide services for speakers or life coaches, this group often holds tele-classes and seminars which all need to be transcribed. In addition, speakers like to have their work recorded and transcribed so they can listen to themselves and improve their technique.

Market your services offline – Insurance agents, realtors, local universities… the list goes one. There are many, many businesses locally who need transcription services.

Work for another company to get some experience – If you’re not ready to take clients on you can work for another company online to get experience. This provides a nice support cushion since all your work will be edited and a good company will give you feedback on how to improve.
