We hope you had a great weekend and have gotten off to a good start this week.

Last Thursday, we sent you an email announcing the launch of Moms Talk Biz. We're really excited about providing these easy-to-follow, affordable home business guides for moms. This is also a fantastic opportunity for you to make some extra money with us.

This week, we're going to close out our traffic series with some publicity tips.

One smart way to get publicity for your online business is by writing a press release. The main thing to keep in mind with a press release is that you're writing a news worthy story, not an ad. You want your press release to have a professional, friendly tone and avoid "sales" speak and hypey words.

Here are a few tips to help you write your first press release:

Tie the press release in with an event or change in your business such as, a grand opening, addition to your staff or the products you offer, fundraising activities, new product launch or upcoming teleseminar... anything that may be considered newsworthy.

Do follow the standard press release format to increase your chances of your press release being published. You can find a full tutorial with step-by-step instructions here:

Distribute your press release to a number of online press release distribution wires (some are free and some charge a small fee)...but don't forget your local media too. They will be most interested in your story.

Once you write and send out your press release, you'll want to create a media page on your website where you can place the press release for people to see. This will also provide new content for the search engines.

Your media page can also include a photograph of you, your business bio and a media pack which reporters can easily access and download. Basically, you want to provide information to make it easy for the media to learn more about you. You can also include an archive for your previous press releases.

If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to send out your first press release. Don't make the mistake of thinking you don't have anything to write about. And if you really can't think of anything, then create something. Set up a fundraising page for your favorite charity or even start your own holiday.

Here's an example of one smart business mom who has done just that. Kristie T. of is once again hosting her annual "Doing Business in Your Bathrobe Day." Many moms participate in this event yearly and have gotten some great publicity from it.

Kristie has also put together a press release which you can customize and use for your own business. It's a great way to get your "feet wet" with press releases since all the work has been done for you. Just personalize the press release with your details and send it out. What a great way to start don't you think?

Week in Review

This past week there's been more talk about recent direct sales company closings. Early this month The Glass Bracelet closed and Lady Emily discontinued its consultant opportunity. Lady Emily apparently still offers a wholesale program but The Glass Bracelet website is gone.

Direct Sales company closings can be devastating for consultants, especially those who relied solely on the company websites as their business presence. It's more important than ever for direct sales reps to build their own online presence..... if your company closes, you'll still have your own customer and team following to move on with.
