You are Here: Free Internet Marketing Newsletter > Back Issues > Researching Product Ideas - July 2, 2007

Hi,

Can you believe it’s already the first week of July? We hope you have some plans to relax while still building your business this summer. This week we’re going to continue our information product segment with tips on where to find product ideas.

One of the best places to research information product topics is Amazon.com. Just about every topic and niche you can think of, Amazon has something on it. It’s a great place to start your research.

Now, when finding an information product idea, it’s important to think ahead for the long term. You really don’t want to develop products within a lot of different unrelated niches. In our opinion, diving into a lot of unrelated niche markets is not the smart way to grow a profitable online business.

The better strategy is to find one niche in which you can develop a variety of products to help that specific target market.

For example, say you wanted to write an eBook on the topic of weightloss. You probably already know weightloss is an extremely competitive field. In this case, you may want to find a sub-niche for the more general term “weightloss.”

Briefly looking Amazon.com gave us a few ideas:

Recipes after weight loss surgery – There are people who need specific help with the foods they can eat after having weightloss surgery. You can also provide future books on topics such as preparing for weight loss surgery, exercises post weight loss surgery. You can even go on to build an online community for people to share their weight loss surgery experience.

Here are a few more ideas, following our weightloss example:

Preventing and Controlling Diabetes - There were many books on Amazon related to this topic. Some ideas are controlling diabetes through diet, children and diabetes, and diabetic recipes. If you’ve been through this experience, you may be able to help others going through the same thing.

Spirituality and Weightloss – We found quite a few books dealing with the mind and body in relation to weightloss. We found books on hypnosis for weight loss; overcoming food addictions; overcoming cravings; and dealing with eating disorders.

Weightloss after baby – New mothers need help and advice on how to get back their pre-pregnancy shape. You can help them with recipes, exercise ideas they can do with baby, how to work out with a newborn baby and so on.

The idea is to find a sub-niche where you have room to grow and help people within that niche. Of course, Amazon.com shouldn’t be your only source for research. You’ll still need to do your keyword and market research to ensure your idea is profitable, but Amazon is a great starting point to get the creative juices flowing. Next week, we’re going to have some important information on info product creation, so stayed tuned for that.

And before we go, a Personal Note from Alice: So, it's July already and that means this is my last official newsletter with Internet Based Moms. Once again, it's been a great ride and I look forward to seeing you on the forum. Plus, Mila's got some pretty cool things up her sleeve, so I think you'll be seeing me around IBMoms just a little bit more in the near future.

As always, have a great week and we’ll see you on the forums!

Have a great week and we look forward to chatting with you on the forums!

All the best,
Alice Seba & Mila Sidman

Week in review

There’s not much to report on this week. You may have noticed a new tab at the top of your PayPal home page. They have decided to redesign the home page (in beta) and are looking for users to test it. Some of the changes include different designs for personal and business users and better overviews of the products and services they offer.
