Hi,
Today we’ll get right down to business with part 2 of our segment “Can you
really make money from home?” Last week we showed you how a general
transcription business is a great way to start working from home without a big
investment… and how there’s plenty of work too!
This week we’re going to talk about medical transcription. Medical transcription
is different to general transcription; Medical Transcriptionists need to train
and learn medical terminology. This means learning all the medical terms and
abbreviations for many different medical specialties; whereas general
transcriptionist don’t require this training since they don’t deal with medical
dictations.
The great thing about medical transcription is that there is a huge demand for
trained quality MTs. It’s also a very exciting and profitable career choice.
Once you receive your training it’s relatively easy to get started and it should
be fairly straightforward to find work.
As an MT you have a lot of options for work, you can work from home on your own
local accounts or you can work for a national company online as well as do your
own work on the side. And if you choose to you can also work at a local hospital
or doctor’s office to gain experience and build up contacts. There are many,
many different options for getting started.
Note from Mila: My first business was a medical transcription company which I
owned for nearly 8 years. This business was hugely profitable for me and I have
always been incredibly glad that I became an MT. It’s definitely an interesting
and very rewarding business to get into.
Now keep in mind that you will need to take a course to become an MT. There are
several course options such as going to a local community college or technology
college or you can take an online course. If you choose an online course, please
be careful as there are a lot of scams out there associated with online MT
courses.
The school we recommend and have been in contact with is The Virtual Learning
Center. We have seen several moms go through this course with good results. They
also offer a free mini-course for you to try a practice dictation and learn a
little more about medical terminology. Go here to learn more:

We’ve also put together a
Moms Talk Biz Guide to Starting your Own Medical Transcription Service. This
gives you step-by-step help on what courses to choose, how to get started, what
equipment you’ll need and how much you can expect to earn, plus much more… just
about everything you need to get started as a medical transcriptionist and build
your business. You can learn more here:

We hope you enjoy those resources and we’ll be back next week to talk about
another exciting work at home business you can quickly start – Virtual
Assistance. Speak to you then.
All the best,
Alice Seba & Mila Sidman
WAHM Talk Radio Notes from Kelly
My guest this week is *Marcee Townsend*. Marcee was the Founder of Marlo Quinn,
a Direct Sales Company that launched in 2006 and closed at the beginning of
2007.
Marlo Quinn was the second DS Candle company to open and close rather suddenly
and this caused me to wonder what there could be for us all to learn from the
owner's experiences. I posted on my blog about this a couple of weeks ago,
mentioning that I'd love the chance to interview Marlo Quinn's Founder. To my
great pleasure, Marcee spotted my post and emailed me to accept my invitation.
Put your opinions in your back pocket and come listen in as Marcee shares the
whole story from her early plans to launch a small business making candles all
the way through to the moment when she and her husband Chris realized they had
to pull the plug.
