A Note From Mila
Hi,
I know Mondays are usually rushed and
involve mountains of weekend emails and playing catch up with work, so I’ll get
right to the point! I’m not sure if you know, but Kelly McCausey of Wahm Talk
Radio is also the publisher of The WC mini mag. The WC is a print magazine full
of information; tips and advice for work at home moms.
I love it not only because it has
great info and I get to stay in touch with the work at home mom community (I
don’t like to feel left out!), but also because it’s a real print magazine. I
read tons of e-books and courses online, but for me there’s nothing like curling
up on a comfy chair and reading a real physical book or magazine. I’m also
always on the go, taking the kids here or there and having interesting reading
material makes sitting through piano lessons a whole lot easier ;-)
So here’s the deal, Kelly has
revamped The WC and it’s now bigger and better than ever. First of all, we’ll
now be getting monthly mailings again instead of quarterly (Yay), and each issue
also includes an educational audio CD.
Kelly has also gone one step
further and put together a generous and exclusive offer just for Internet Based
Moms subscribers. She’s giving you 15% off the standard subscription price for
as long as you remain a subscriber. That’s a pretty nice deal that’s available
until the end of this month. To grab your discount, all you have to do is go to:
http://www.internetbasedmoms.com/m/wc.html and enter
this special coupon code when you sign up – 36197.
It’s important that you enter the
code to get your discount, and don’t leave it for later… You know how easily
life just seems to get in the way or how a million other things will come up, so
grab your 15% savings now and don’t miss out. Go to:
http://www.internetbasedmoms.com/m/wc.html and enter this special coupon
code when you sign up – 36197.
That’s it from me; scroll down for
your featured article and to learn more about what’s happening in the work at
home mom community!
Wishing you much
success,

5 Steps to
Successful Outsourcing
By Mila Sidman
Without a doubt, I contribute the success of my business (and any business) to
the power of outsourcing. Think about it, as a small business owner, you’re one
person, there are only so many hours in a day and that’s just not going to
change. It’s easy to get caught in the trap of thinking we can do it all, but in
reality trying to do too much can really take the focus of your main priority –
building your business.
If you’re already getting help in your business, you know just how important
outsourcing is and you probably wonder how you ever managed without it! And if
you’re still not outsourcing some of your work load, get ready to discover some
easy and fast ways go get started.
Ask for Recommendations
It’s never easy to find the right person to work with, by asking for
recommendations you can greatly improve your chances of ending up with reliable
helpers. Ask a trusted friend or other business people for recommendations. You
still need to ensure the person is a good match for you, but you’ll have a
better starting point.
Communicate Clearly
Many problems and issues can be avoided by clear communication. Before jumping
in, explain to your potential helper how you work, what the job involves and
what is expected of them and you. Finding good helpers is a two-way process and
you’ll need to be accountable to them as well. If you take two days to answer
your helper’s emails when they have an important question, you really can’t
expect them to respond to you in two hours right? It also helps to write down
the terms and expectations before starting out. It doesn’t necessarily have to
involve a contract but terms should be clearly explained in writing.
Keep Them Busy
It’s hard to find reliable help online (and offline), and it’s definitely a
whole lot easier when you offer someone regular work. If you only hire a helper
for a few hours here and there, they’ll get booked with other clients and
projects. It will be much more difficult for you to find quick help when you’re
in a pinch. If at all possible try to hire someone for a set number of hours per
week.
Keep Them Happy
If you want to find and hold on to good people, it goes without saying that you
treating them respectfully and well is important. That doesn’t mean putting up
with unacceptable work or missed deadlines, but it does mean considering your
helpers and the work they do for you. If one of them is working really hard and
doing a great job, give them a raise or send them a note and let them know how
much you appreciate them. It’s not always possible to increase someone’s rate,
but doing something nice or simply showing how much you appreciate them can go a
long way.
Save Your Instructions
This is a tip I picked up from Alice Seba, when you’re giving someone a project
for the first time, take a little extra time and save those instructions in a
pdf or word document. It’s unfortunate but things don’t always work out and
people move on. If you lose a helper, it will be a whole lot easier to pick up
where they left off if you have clear, written instructions for the next person.
It will save you loads of time from having to explain the same things again.
Plus having written instructions gives your helpers something to refer to
instead of having to email you for information.
The road to building a business is never smooth… Getting started with
outsourcing is a learning process and it does take a little time to find good
people to work with, but once you do find a good match and get help in your
business you’ll see positive changes and wonder how you ever managed without it.
