Hi,
I hope you had a great weekend. My kids went back to school last Tuesday and I’m
happy to say things are back to normal around here. I posted some back to school
pictures on the forum (feel free to post your back to school pictures too!).
Let’s talk about finding honest product reviews and recommendations. This is
always a tough one, especially when everywhere you turn online there seems to be
some new product claiming you can make fast money and offering big promises.
It’s really difficult to know who to trust or where to invest your hard-earned
money.
For moms it’s especially difficult because we’re often on limited budgets and
when we invest in a product, we need reassurance that it’s going to help us.
Here are a few tips to help make the buying decision easier:
If you’re unsure of the quality of a product, go to a few trusted forums and
ask. Many moms are happy to give you honest feedback and advice on products
they’ve used, so don’t hesitate to ask for help.
If you’re undecided between several products, asking for opinions on all your
product choices can really help you decide which may be just right for you.
You can also do a search online and find trusted review sites where members post
unbiased reviews and opinions.
And if you have a few pressing questions, you can always email the product
seller and ask before you make the purchase. Of course, search on the site for
answers first since many products will have an FAQ section.
At Internet Based Moms, we have several resources to help you as well. You can
visit our friendly message boards and chat to other members about products.

I’ve put together a “Mom Recommends” section, where I’ve listed all the products
I’ve used to build my business and wholeheartedly recommend. Find it at:

Alice Seba and I have some ongoing product recommendations and tips. You’ll also
find resources where you can voice your opinions on the products you’ve used.

I hope all of this helps. And remember you can always ask for advice over at the

This week, I thought I’d share a tidbit from my home-office with you. My
high-speed internet crashed last week and as luck would have it, the parts to
fix it are out of stock and on backorder. So I’m temporarily working with
dial-up service… something I haven’t done in years. I realize now how spoiled
I’ve been!
With this new challenge, I have to really focus on how I can best use my
internet time. One task that takes a considerable amount of time each day is
replying to emails. Typically, I schedule in a couple hours each morning and
afternoon to handle these but now, I’ve found a new approach. I download all my
email but only answer the ones that need immediate attention. The rest I answer
when I’m offline and then queue them to send the next time I connect to the
internet. Of course, this doesn’t only have to be done if you have dial-up. It’s
a good strategy for any time.
Responding to emails can be time consuming no matter the speed of your internet
connection. Our expert blogger, Aurelia Williams offers some more tips for
managing your email time.

Podcasts are cropping up everywhere these days. If you’ve ever wondered how to
create a podcast of your own, Kelly McCausey shares some of the programs she
uses to do this.
