Business Etiquette - Quick Tips for Work at Home Moms
Life In Your Home Office
As a work-at-home mom, one is able to enjoy the perks that
come with setting your own schedule. Work can be accomplished
while the kids are napping, at school or attending play dates.
Regardless of when you begin your work day, certain protocol
should be applied in your home office and are guaranteed to
make you more efficient.
First, be neat. Unlike a corporate office, your manager or CEO
isn’t going to arrive unannounced and look disapprovingly at
the mess on your desk. Even though no one is checking up on
you, you still have a responsibility to your business. A clean
and tidy work space will allow you to be better organized and,
ultimately, more efficient.
Second, set reasonable deadlines. Your first priority is to
your family, so do not overburden yourself with deadlines that
even ‘super-mom’ couldn’t meet. Doing so causes increased
pressure that can negatively affect the quality of your work.
Lastly, if a business colleague or client does something
nice for you, respond with a thank you note within 24 hours.
Working from home does not afford you the convenience of
dropping by another’s office to extend your sincere thanks for
a kindness done. A note would be not only considerate, but
proper etiquette. Do not email it, as everyone else does that.
Set yourself apart and take 5 minutes to handwrite the note and
drop it in the mail. Your thoughtfulness and personal touch may
be the difference between a client choosing you over your
competition.
