Business Etiquette - Quick Tips for Work at Home Moms

It’s Not Your Job Title That Is Important….

In addition to my etiquette business, I am fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom. When my girls were babies, it was easy to compare myself to other women who were out in corporate America. I looked at my friends and colleagues who were VPs, Managers, etc and thought that my job definitely was not as impressive or important since I was a work-at-home mom and didn’t have to commute anywhere but the playground and Supermarket. Yes, it is very easy to get stuck in the ‘comparing’ rut and that brings us to this week’s tip. The job or title you hold is not what is important; rather, it is what you are learning that is truly valuable and will last a lifetime.

As a stay-at-home working mother, you are learning to prioritize, multi-task, organize, switch over gracefully from Mommy to working woman, work efficiently in a fixed time period, not to mention the patience and tolerance that is being learned each day. If we look at a high ranking employee versus an intern, we would, in most cases, notice that the intern is learning new things each and every day and is getting more valuable life experience than the high ranking individual. If you find yourself pooh-poohing and comparing your job, remember that the experience you are gaining is invaluable and that is more important than any title.
