Meta Refresh Redirect is Not Search Engine Friendly
March 2004

One way to redirect pages is to use a meta refresh
redirect. However, it is not the recommended method
or redirecting pages. In fact, many search engines
state that a meta refresh redirect is against their
guidelines.
A meta refresh redirect is used by search engine
spammers to get rankings for a certain keyphrase,
then they redirect visitors to another, most often
IRRELEVANT page. Even if that's not what you're
doing, a search engine may not know that.
If you're not sure what kind of redirect you
are using? Look at your source code and if you can see:
<html>
<head>
<title>Title goes here</title>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.domain.com/file.html">
</head>
you are using a meta refresh
redirect. You should be using a search engine
friendly 301 redirect instead.
