Whether you’re a Virtual Assistant, Photographer, graphic
designer, writer or more, a job site is a great way to build
your business. Here’s how:
Job sites enable service providers to fill in the gaps. Even
service professionals that have been in business for a long
time can and do have gaps in work. Maybe it’s related to the
season, a holiday, or simply a lull in activity. A freelance
job site or job site aggregator is a great way to pick up a
few new clients.
Job site are also a great way to create a portfolio. When
you’re just starting out as a service professional it is
difficult to have an extensive portfolio or client list to
use as a selling point. While many jobs found via freelance
job sites do not pay top rates, they are an excellent way to
get paid while creating quality products for your portfolio.
Many people and businesses that post on freelance jobsites
are willing to give a newbie a shot.
Job sites are excellent networking tool. Many service
providers are able to develop long lasting relationships
with businesses and individuals they met and worked with on
a freelance job site. These relationships can go on to be
quite profitable.
Referrals. Freelance job sites, and the people you
meet on them, are also an excellent tool to build referrals.
One satisfied customer will not only leave good feedback or
provide a testimonial for you; they’re likely to send
customers your way. The new customers you gain from a job
site client can be instrumental to building your business.
Repeat job orders. Happy customers found via
freelance job sites often turn into regular customers.
Regular customers means regular work and regular income.
Even if the rates they’re paying are a touch lower than the
rates you charge your other customers, over time and
repeated quality work you can raise your rates so they match
that of your other non-job site customers.
Many service professionals are hesitant to participate in
freelance job sites and to apply for opportunities because
they feel there is too much competition, the rates paid are
too low, and that job sites are somehow unprofessional.
Fortunately that’s just not true. There are many wonderful
businesses that use freelance job sites to find contractors
and they’re willing to pay market rate. Additionally, while
the competition may be stiff for the truly outstanding
opportunities, the old adage you don’t know until you try
applies here. Freelance job sites have a lot to offer
service professionals at any level in their career.
