Telecommuting and Jobs Tutorial - Part 7 - Selling your services. Do you need a website?

Establishing yourself as a telecommuter, whether you’re staying with your current employer or working for a new one, doesn’t limit you from pursuing additional opportunities. In fact, once you’re established as a telecommuter you may be surprised how many people come knocking on your door for help.

Here’s an example. Kelly works as a medical transcriptionist. She started as an onsite employee with a large health practice management company. When her first baby was born Kelly approached her boss and proposed telecommuting. Her proposal was accepted and she’s been telecommuting for seven years now.

However Kelly’s income doesn’t stop with her monthly paycheck from her employer. Simply by networking with local healthcare companies she brings in a significant amount of additional income each month. Her start as a successful telecommuter has given her the ability to open a side business contracting with other companies. Most any successful telecommuter can have this additional income. Here’s what you need to get started:

A website. A website can be many things but it doesn’t have to be complicated. The main goal for a freelance website is to sell your services. For a telecommuter who is looking to branch out and freelance a bit on the side, the website may:

Highlight your experience
Talk about your prices
Inform of the process
Prove your credibility with references or testimonials

Your website may also:

Highlight the benefits of hiring a contract employee or a telecommuter.
Offer information products, newsletter, and other content relevant to the service you deliver
Promote affiliate products or services that are relevant to your service.

Doing it yourself or hiring an expert?

There are an abundance of website services available to the beginning website developer that makes building your first website fairly straightforward. These features and services include hosting services, templates, and blogs. One of the easiest types of website to setup is a website based on a blog. Blog type sites can have all the informative pages you need plus they give you the ability to post and communicate with your customers and potential clients.
