Getting visitors to your website isn't difficult, but it does take some consistent effort. Here's what to do.

Join one or two forums in your industry. If you join two, use the same username for both websites. Ideally, your username should be your real name. That way you're building your brand and reputation from day one. 

Contribute to discussions. Start informative threads that help people solve problems. Answer their questions in various threads and forums if you can. 

Building up a reputation in a forum takes a bit of time. Generally you need to get to at least 1,000 posts before people will take you seriously. 

Once a forum starts to recognize you however, you'll have some serious networking power at your disposal. People will respond to requests for favors, because you've already made so many deposits into the "favor bank."

Article marketing is another powerful way to get traffic to your website. 

Start by writing articles and submitting them to various article directories. These article directories already have solid Page Rank and reputation in Google's eyes. Getting your articles to rank for long tail keywords by submitting them to article directories is quite easy. 

You should also submit your article to industry-specific article directories. Although these have lower page rank, it's also more relevant than just a broad article directory. 

Finally, approach blog and website owners and offer to write unique articles for them in exchange for a backlink. You'll often get a yes. Remember, website owners need to put out great content too - It's a lot of work for them that you're offering to do for free.

A joint venture is when someone else with a large email list promotes your product. You give them a great product for their users and he sends you a boatload of traffic. 

Other forms of partnerships include exchanging backlinks or doing joint teleseminars. The goal is to exchange both backlinks for search engines and to send traffic to each other's websites. 

If you can build relationships in person and then exchange the resources of your online websites, that's even better.
