Website Building - Why a Newsletter is Important and Tips to Get Started


A newsletter can increase your business by as much as 8 times, sometimes even more.

Having a newsletter is such a crucial element of online business, yet many entrepreneurs still don't fully understand its importance.

Most people don't make buying decisions based on first impressions. People also won't become fans of your content over just their first impression.

Instead, most people buy after having had multiple contacts with you and your business.  

For example, they might land on your website, read an article and learn a little bit about you, see your product, then leave. If you have a newsletter, you'll be able to follow up with them, keep building the relationship and develop a sense of trust with them. Eventually, they'll buy from you - Often several times. 

On the other hand, if you didn't have a newsletter, you'll have lost the sale when that person left your website for the first time. 

Marketers with great newsletters have found their conversion rates increased by as much as 8 times just by adding a newsletter and building a relationship with their users over the long run! 

=> How to Get Started 

The first step to getting started with a newsletter is to choose an autoresponder service. This is the service that stores all your customer's email addresses for you and sends out emails when you want. 

Aweber is the service that's known most for their deliverability. Meaning out of all the other services, they have the lowest rate of emails not being delivered. The downside to Aweber is that you can't add anyone from non-online sources without them needing to opt-in by clicking a link in their email, which will drastically cut down the number of people who actually make it on your list. 

iContact and ConstantContact are both other well known services that allow you to add names to your lists without needing users to opt in again. 

Basically, if you're doing online only promotions, then Aweber is probably the best choice. Otherwise, use another service like iContact or ConstantConact. 

Once you have your autoresponder setup, use the interface to create a list and generate the HTML code you need to put the signup box on your site. Place the signup box prominently on your front page and subsequent pages to maximize the amount of people who opt in.

Make sure users know what they'll get by signing up for your newsletter. In other words, the "why should I signup?" question should be clearly answered in your user's mind.

Write in regular intervals. If you're writing twice a week for example, stick to that schedule.

Your users will come to expect your emails at certain intervals. Consistency is key with a newsletter. 

Here's the bottom line: If you're not using a newsletter, you're leaving money on the table. Start building an email list today and watch your income jump!
