Avoiding the Munchies While You’re Working From Home
|
|
Does this scenario sound familiar?
You’re sitting at your computer working, and all of a sudden
hunger strikes.
Since you work from home, you are in
close proximity to a variety of foods in your refrigerator
or pantry closet. |
Perhaps you choose a bag of chips, or a
chocolate bar; or maybe you decide to open a box of donuts. Avoiding
the munchies while you’re working from home is not easy, but it is
necessary.
While working from home has many benefits, it
also has just as many drawbacks. Munching on goodies is one of the
drawbacks. This can lead to weight gain and health problems over a
period of time.
One of the ways you can try to avoid the munchies is to drink lots
of water. If you have room in your home office for a compact
refrigerator, load it with bottles of water and fruit of all kinds.
In this way, you will not be tempted to leave the room and raid the
refrigerator or the pantry closet. Nor will you be tempted to
consume that which is neither healthy nor good for you in the long
run. If you do not have room for a small refrigerator, purchase a
small cooler and keep it in the home office.
Among the many health concerns for work-at-home moms, or anyone else
who has a home business, is weight gain. Not taking time out to go
for a brisk walk, stretching, or any other exercise routine may have
long-term effects.
As we become more involved in our home business, we tend to forget
about ourselves. We are so engrossed with succeeding that we ignore
the potential loss that is accompanied by poor eating habits.
The key to success in both areas is to have a healthy breakfast
before the work day begins; stop and have a salad with chicken
strips for lunch; and prepare a nutritious and healthy dinner.
While we all have cravings, drinking water during the day can reduce
the need to munch on snacks. Keep non-fat yogurt on hand for a
mid-day snack, or make a vegetable smoothie which is filling,
healthy, and will carry you over until lunch or dinner.
There is another alternative as well; don’t buy any munchies at all.
Although that may be a bit unrealistic considering there are other
family members who may enjoy a snack every once in a while. However,
during those months when the need for a snack is overwhelming, you
can purchase the new 100 calorie cookie crisps that are available
today.
Let’s face it; we work hard trying to make our businesses a success,
right? Avoiding the munchies while you’re working from home may be
difficult at first, but think about this:
What good will the business be if you are not
healthy enough to enjoy its rewards?
