Managing Your Business While Staying Involved with Your Kids
|
|
As a work-at-home mom with a business
to manage, sometimes it’s difficult to always know what’s
happening with your kids.
However, there are ways in which
managing your business while staying involved with your kids
can be achieved. |
The key to managing your business and, at the
same time, staying actively involved in your kids’ lives is
organization and time management. Set up a schedule that encompasses
the amount of time needed to get the kids ready for school, take
them to school, and pick them up at the end of the school day. Make
their lunches the night before, and give yourself enough time in the
morning to prepare their breakfasts.
Use your organizer to ascertain what work needs to be done each day
and factor in the time you need to care for the kids before and
after school. Utilize the time they are in school to maximize the
amount of work you have on any given day. Prioritize the work so
that you are assured the most important tasks are completed first.
Once the kids are home, they will most likely engage in their
homework assignment that gives you a bit more time to concentrate on
the business. At a certain point, dinner will have to be prepared,
discussing the day’s events, getting the kids ready for bed, and
preparing their lunches for the next day. At this point, you can
either return back to work or make a list of those items you’ll need
to tackle the next day.
It is also important that you do not overtax yourself by juggling
too many things at one time. Of course you can handle it, but you
also have a business to run which needs your attention on a daily
basis. This requires that you get a good night’s sleep; exercise
when you can; and maintain a healthy diet. If you become tired or
over-stressed, not only will the business suffer but you will become
irritable and the kids will sense it.
In addition, family problems will always take preference over your
business so it is also important to be as flexible as possible.
However, if you are organized and have a set schedule that utilizes
your time efficiently, you can manage your business while staying
involved with your kids.
